We deliver technical assistance and appropriate below-market financing to help Wisconsin nonprofits make strategic financial decisions for their near-term success and long-term sustainability. When working through us, nonprofits are able to leverage additional sources of support and secure expertise that would otherwise be unavailable. Our assistance often becomes the investment needed to move a project forward, assist with operating shortfalls or build capacity for better decision-making.

We also offer individuals and organizations the opportunity to join us in our efforts. As a nonprofit ourselves, we welcome financial support through charitable donations as well as investments that we convert to needed low-interest loans for nonprofits pursuing pre-development, construction, real estate and equipment. It is a never-ending cycle of giving; as the loans are repaid, the money becomes available for other nonprofits.

Philosophy

Growing from strong roots in Dane County, we are the only community loan fund in Wisconsin dedicated to serving Wisconsin nonprofits. We began with a commitment to "friendly faces and neighborhood places" and continue finding new ways to deliver on it at a local level.

History

Fifteen years ago, a group of socially minded individuals pooled their funds to begin what is now Forward Community Investments, one of 14 community development financial institutions in Wisconsin. It began helping nonprofits in Dane County and expanded statewide in 2006. We continue to represent the best interests of nonprofits that enhance the lives of low-wealth persons and communities. By offering a hand-up to nonprofits and raising a voice for advocacy, we are a solid bridge between investors and nonprofits - all seeking a more just society.
